Albert Park
The Australian Grand Prix attracted 303,000 spectators to Albert Park in heat wave conditions. Ben McCashney once again performed well in the huge 39 Aussie Racing Car field.
Ben qualified strongly with a close second place along side series leader Paul Kemal.
Race 1 saw a fierce 6 way battle at the front until Ben had an unfortunate spin. He resumed in 34th position and fought hard to finish 27th.
In race 2 the safety car was out for all but 2 laps after some spectacular crashes. Ben slashed his way past 17 cars to finish in 10th place.
Race 3 was televised live and Ben didn’t disappoint by storming from a 10th place start to finish 3rd and right amongst the leaders. Despite the car being extremely fast team engineer Nick Randall made some significant changes for the double points final.
Sunday’s final despite being only 6 laps provided some great racing. The Steel Blue/Playstation car charged through from 11th on the grid to finish an extremely close second place! The changes made to the car worked very well and Ben drove superbly.
Ben remains in second place in the championship and within 4 points of the lead.
The next meeting for Ben and the team is at Wakefield Park at Goulburn in April.
