Eastern Creek

19 year old Trentham driver Ben McCashney followed up his sensational 2007 form with a strong performance in the first round of the Aussie Racing Car Australian Championship at Eastern Creek. Ben finished second overall in a field of 35 cars.

Ben recorded the fastest time in the first practice and qualified in 5th position.

Ben battled in the lead group early in race 1 until a gearbox issue caused a minor spin. The outcome was a loss of ten places. Ben recovered well to finish in 9th place.
 
Race 2 saw Ben starting in 9th and progressing steadily up the order. The Steel Blue/Playstation car hitting the lead early on the last lap, unfortunate contact with another car  one turn later saw Ben fighting back to finish 5th place.

A sensational race 3 saw 5 cars dicing for the lead with Ben leading on the second last lap. Contact between Paul Morris and James Ward saw Ben coming away with a well deserved race win.

In the double points final Ben raced in the lead pack for the entire race and featured in a frantic battle with Morris and Paul Kemal. Ben lead until the last corner where contact would see him eventually finish equal second with James Ward.

Ben amassed enough points to finish in second place behind Kemal, a great start to the 2008 season.
