Wakefield Park

Round 3 of the Aussie Racing Car series moved to the demanding 2.2 kilometre Wakefield Park at Goulburn on the weekend.

Despite not ever driving at this track previously Ben performed strongly and recorded 3rd fastest in the practice session and followed up with a creditable 5th in qualifying.

Ben’s car was lacking grip at the start of race 1 and he struggled in the early laps and lost several places. By mid race Ben surged forward to eventually finish 4th and set a new lap record on lap 9.

In race 2 Ben moved forward to challenge Paul Kemal for the lead. A great battle ensued with Kemal just holding on for a narrow victory.

Race 3 saw a very similar scenario with Kemal winning, Ben second and Nick Lowe taking the other podium position. Unfortunately Ben’s gearbox broke on the last lap.

The Aussie Racing Cars have the gearbox integral with the engine and the team would have little time to effect the required change. As the time ticked by several unexpected problems arose and despite the frantic attempts from the team Ben was unable to take his place in the double points final. A heart breaking end to the race meeting! 

Ben has now dropped to 11th place in the championship.

The next meeting for Ben and the team is at Winton in August.
