Solid Result for Ben in Townsville

The team from Ben McCashney racing made the massive 2750 kilometre trip to Far North Queensland for Round 4 of the Fujitsu series,
the Sucrogen 400 in Townsville.
The team transporter was up and going following a massive effort by Ged Stokes and his team of helpers making the late nights well worth while.

The previous round at Winton boasted the strongest ever race in the development series history, the Townsville entry was significantly stronger. No less than 9 cars we run by main game teams or were cars used in the championship series last year, many of these had drivers with vast experience.

Despite the team not being able to test since the Winton round Ben managed to record the 11th fastest time in practice 1. The team was extremely happy with this result; Ben was quicker than many more fancied drivers in great equipment.

Practice 2 progress was halted with a broken header limiting Ben to 6 laps. The team worked late into the night to repair the damage to the alternator and power steering caused by the escaping exhaust gases. Brad from Stainless Customs fabricated a new header to replace the broken one.

Ben qualified in 13th place a really solid result in an aging car.  In race 1 Ben stayed out of trouble for most of the race eventually finishing 11th, encountering a deflating front tyre and suffering radio interference from the television broadcast! This made communication difficult with the team engineer.

Minor brake problems hampered Ben in race 2 and 3. Unfortunately the team ran out of pads and rotors forcing the use of older parts. 12th place in race 2 was another good effort. Race 3 started poorly with Ben dropping 9 places early in the race before a spirited recovery to 14th at the race end. This saw him finish 11th overall for the weekend, an excellent job!

The team wishes to thank the following people for their continued assistance Playstation, Vereker Bros Smash Repairs, PJ Transport and Logistics, Tyquin Earthmoving, Rick Egan, ZMM, MCRB,  AML risk management, Albins Offroad, M&W engine services, Meteor car and Truck rental and Stainless Customs for their support.

Ben also extends his thanks to all of the locals who have supported his career.
